Employee safety and well being

Figure 1 - What is employee health and well being ?

Employee safety and well being is a key parameter for orgainsational success, particular for companies managing hazardous operations, the role of mental health has been difficult to integrate with urgent priorities to reduce accidents and injuries, and even harder to integrate with productivity goals. It is our contention that one of the main reasons for this difficulty is related to a predominant focus on the negative aspects of employee mental health – and on individually oriented, reactive interventions to mitigate poor mental health outcomes (Caulfield et al, 2004; Kompier et al,2000). Therefore, it is mandatory to maintain employee satisfaction levels always on a higher note to get maximum benefits to the organisation as well.

Further employee well-being is expected to carry the effect of workplace practices onto organizational improvements and success (Grawitch et al., 2006).

In another scenario placing heavy safety practices have an initial negative effect on employee psychological well-being, in time, they will fail to protect physical wellbeing due to lack of safety compliance, as well as on social well-being due to compromised working relationships (Grant et al., 2007). Therefore, we may require to have proper mix of balance of safety precautions at the work place. Considering the fact, we may able to automate through intervention of perspective of machines it self where employee has not to worry too much about it.

Workplace well being is playing a crucial role even when it comes to safety of employees since if they are work in pleasance of mind within the organisation, majority of the safety hazards could be prevented. Refer below figure for the summary of work place wellbeing.

Personal wellbeing, we could separate for two main criteria’s such as physical wellbeing and mental wellbeing. In order to have physical wellbeing it is required to have regular exercises and having a healthy diet. At present there are some companies have understood this concept and they are in process of providing healthy diet to their employees and also encourage them to engage in regular exercises which they are monitoring the performance of the same through online applications. Even in some countries in order to have promotions within the organisation they are considering these performances as a KPI in a bid to motivate their employees to engage on those activities.

Apart from that Mental wellbeing also paramount to take the maximum input from the employee for the organisation. Therefore, employers have to create pleasant experience at the work place to the employee by giving them due care, recognition, rewards and mentoring to create a positive culture in the organisation. Also, in this fact organisation could organize day outing, leisure activities, parties and award ceremonies within the organisation to boost employee mental wellbeing. Further, it is key to give them an attractive remuneration package to feel them comfort in their lives.

In addition to the personal wellbeing organisations should adopt proper safety policies within the organisations. Firstly, we could identify hazardous things and highlight them with tiger marks also we could properly display safety measure whenever it is required with clear visibility. Even organisation could automate their machines to identify possible threats through adopting artificial intelligence. Also, these measures should periodically inspect by the industry experts.

Adopting these safety measure will boost employee confidence and pleasance of mind and naturally workplace will become a safer place. In addition to the above employees always to encourage wear of safety wear and giving rewards for the same could be accommodated if necessary.

Conclusion

Adopting employee safety and wellbeing is a primary responsibility of employers where employees should also understand their role in this regard to achieve better results. If this mechanism is working well within the company, then it has a strong staff carder to perform their duties without any interruptions such as reduction in unplanned leaves, medical leaves. Also, employees will be motivated assuming that company is also caring our personal wellbeing therefore we also need to take our organisation towards the success.
