Training and development in organisations through online platforms

Training and development is a crucial factor in talent development within the employees of an organisation. It produces more productive employees with vary of knowledge which enhance the creative and analytical approach of a company. Khan (1997) defines online instruction as an innovative approach for delivering instruction to a remote audience, using the Web as the medium. Over the years methods of training and development has revolutionized as the other sectors and with the Covid 19 global pandemic majority of the organisations switch to online training and development programs.

Based on the convenience, cost effectiveness for both to the employer and employee, organisations are now preferred online training over the conventional ways of training and development programs. Some of the key benefits of online training programs are well described by the below figure;

Through online training employees could extract knowledge more than conventional theories of training and development since it creates avenues to address larger crowed at once. Also, it reduces time and cost involved in travelling to attend physical lectures.

Further online training immensely contributed to lessor the carbon foot print based on the above and lessor usage of printed materials. In addition to the above employers could offer online training and development to its employees during the year seamlessly and also employees could attend to them at their convenience and also on a preference time frame of the employee.

Since the employers are able to remotely monitor the performance and the development of the employees through online assessment, quizzes via a developed online e- learning platform employers could develop a data base easily regarding the future training needs.

Apart from online lectures there are new avenues to attract the audience through online learning platforms such as games, quizzes and puzzles. Recently our organisation conclude such quiz program titles as learning premier league over the entire branch network which compromise more than 250 branches island wide through online platform which attract lot of employees towards this program with minimum expenditure.

However, it is identified that since online training and development is being a new concept still some people have different ideologies such as;

Validity of online certification have lessor value.

Attracting listeners through online platforms are difficult.

Lecturers are not able to communicate their view accurately to the audience.


Conclusion

Online learning platform has set new standards to the training and development process in a positive manner. It also gives maximum results when consider the cost and time involved in online training process. Further we could easily maintain a process monitoring system of employee development at ease since all activities are being recorded. However online training and development still in the verge of development and accordingly future generations would embrace this change in training and development in a positive manner. Further it would be much encouraged if the present laws of the countries could be amended to facilitate these online training process and accreditations provided by online platforms.
